Obituary of Velma Lucille Lowry
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
VELMA L. LOWRY
Velma Lucille Lowry, daughter of Charles William and Ida Myrtle (Putman) Havens, was born April 1, 1928, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at the Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas, on August 16, 2013, at the age of 85.
Velma grew up in Norton County and attended the local schools. On September 5, 1947, she married Jack Lowry in Norton. They made their home in Phillips County, Kansas, until 1949, when they returned to Norton County. Her husband, Jack, passed away 1993.
Velma was a member of the Norton Christian Church. She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rebekah Lodge where she was a member of the Past Noble Grand Club. She enjoyed handiwork and quilting and greatly loved her family.
Survivors include: three children and their spouses, Myron and Diane Lowry, Florissant, Missouri; Susan and Pierre Baczkowski, and Roberta and Dennis Schukman, all of Hays, Kansas; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, Harold and Roscoe Havens and Lloyd Havens in infancy, and four sisters, Violet Stover, Vera VanDerWege, Viola Collins, and Marie Delimont.
Memorials have been established to the Via Christi Village in Hays, the Hays Hospice, and the Norton Eagles Club.
