Obituary of Mary Opal Jones

IN LOVING MEMORY MARY O. JONES Mary Opal Jones, daughter of Nathaniel and Edna (Bandt) Berney, was born April 14, 1924, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, and passed away at the Prairie Haven Nursing Home in Kensington, Kansas, on May 1, 2013, at the age of 89. Mary grew up in Phillipsburg and attended the local schools. On March 19, 1946, she was united in marriage to Montra Gene Jones, Sr. They made their home in Norton/Edmond/Lenora communities where Montra worked for the KDOT and Mary was a homemaker. They later moved to Glasco, then Phillipsburg, before moving to Kensington. Montra passed away January 28, 2011. Survivors include: one daughters and her husbands, Opal Jean and Don Urbanek, Ellsworth, Kansas; two sons, George Jones, Scandia, Kansas; and Jim Hunt, of North Carolina; one son-in-law, Ralph Gitchel, Agra, Kansas; one brother, Larry Berney, of Arizona; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Montra Eugene Jones, Jr., and Joseph Kelly Jones, one daughter, Betty Gitchel, six brothers, Amel, Bud, Lloyd, Clarence, Virgil, and Nathaniel Berney, Jr., and two sisters, Barbara and Laverne. A memorial has been established to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
