Obituary of Donald James McMullen

IN LOVING MEMORY OF DONALD J. McMULLEN Donald James McMullen, son of Cecil James and Margaret CeDoris (Conard) McMullen, was born September 11, 1946, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at his home in Norton, on May 1, 2013, at the age of 66. Don grew up in Norton and attended the Norton schools, graduating from the Norton Community High School. He also received a Bachelor's degree from Ft. Hays State College. On June 18, 1967, Don and Cynthia Kay Johnston were united in marriage in Norton. They made their home in Hays, Kansas, for one year before returning to Norton. Don was a farmer and had been an auctioneer and real estate broker in the Norton area for many years. Don was a member of the Norton Christian Church and had served as a Deacon. He was the chairman of the Northwest United Federal Credit Union Supervisory Board, served on the Norton County Fair Board for many years, was a life member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was very active with antique auto racing. He was instrumental in getting their races in Norton, and spent many hours rebuilding the cars as well. He was also active with Norton's Longspur Chapter of Pheasants Forever and donated many years auctioneering at the annual banquet. Don had a great love for his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting with his family and is fondly remembered for the hours spent playing with tractors on the floor with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include: his wife, Cindy McMullen, Norton; six children, Darren, and wife, Kari McMullen, Norton; Derek and wife, Shannon McMullen, Underwood, Iowa; Dawn Michelle and husband, Paul Cummings, Littleton, Colorado; Dannon and husband, Donald Jones, Wichita, Kansas; Desiree and husband, Kyle Rohr, Topeka, Kansas; and Dallas McMullen, Manhattan, Kansas; three sisters, Darlene, and husband, Duane McEwen, Norton; Dronda and husband, Larry Frydendall, Belleville, Kansas; Darla Jean and husband, Gary Lahman, Ft. Collins, Colorado; one sister-in-law, Rosalie McMullen, Norton; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dennis. A memorial has been established to the Donald McMullen Memorial Fund.
