Obituary of Joan Leanor Hazlett

IN LOVING MEMORY OF JOAN L. HAZLETT Joan Leanor Hazlett, daughter of Hubert and Margaret (Pillmore) Hazlett, was born February 23, 1924, north of Edmond, Kansas, and passed away at her home in Edmond on April 20, 2010, at the age of 86. Joan attended elementary and high school in Edmond, and was a graduate of Fort Hays State University and the University of Chicago. She worked for a law firm in Chicago, and later earned her teaching degree. She taught in the Chicago Public School system for 18 years before moving to Arizona. She worked in the Phoenix School system until taking early retirement. Joan was a member of the Edmond Christian Church and the Methodist Church Disciples in Norton. She was an avid bird watcher and a member of the Audubon Society. She was a world traveler and had visited many places including Russia, Africa, China, and most of Europe. One of the highlights of her life was working in the campaign office of Adlai Stevenson in Chicago. She was also a great support of the ERA. She leaves to mourn her sister, Sherry Showers, and husband, Jim, Edmond; two nieces and their husbands, Michelle and Robert Wiltfong, Edmond; Devra and Lance Dobbins, Bryan, Texas; one nephew, James Showers, and fiancee', Jennifer Hook, Tyler Texas; four precious great-nephews, Hayden and Judson Wiltfong, Hunter and Brody Dobbins; her Godchild and husband, Elizabeth and Ed Higbee, and their children, Elliot, Kitty Ruth, and Polly Ann, Dunden, New Zealand; other relatives and friends. Her family will sadly miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Betty Jane, and her grandparents. Memorials may be made to Hospice Services of Phillips County.
