Obituary of Leslie R. Ellis
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
LESLIE R. ELLIS, JR.
Leslie Raymond Ellis, Jr., son of Leslie R. and Ethel (Troutner) Ellis, Sr., was born September 7, 1928, in Clayton, Kansas, and passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on February 20, 2013, at the age of 84.
Leslie attended the schools in Clayton and received his G.E.D. from Colby. He served in the U.S.Army and was a mechanic for the Kansas Department of Transportation. On September 2, 1978, Leslie and Sally Gibbons were united in marriage in Springfield, Illinois. They made their home in Springfield before moving back to Kansas, living in the Clayton and Lenora communities.
Leslie was a member of the Clayton United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and had a special love for his dog, Little Bit.
Survivors include: his wife, Sally Ellis, of their home in Lenora; four children, Betty Dingman, of New Hampshire; Ruth and husband, Dan Williams, Ashland, Illinois; Jean and husband, Gordon French, Springfield, Illinois; Glenn and wife, Connie Ellis, Ashland, Illinois; four stepchildren and their spouses, Judy and Ed Estill, Chuck and Kathy Baker, John and Vicky Baker, all of Springfield; Becky and Bob Krueger, Norton; two brothers, Von Ellis, Aurora, Colorado; Bob and wife, Barb Ellis, North Platte, Nebraska; one sister, Myrna Jones, Oberlin, Kansas; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Debra, and one sister-in-law, Helen Ellis.
Inurnment will be held in the Clayton Cemetery at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the Leslie Ellis, Jr. Memorial Fund.
