Obituary of Karen Rose Shearer

IN LOVING MEMORY OF KAREN R. SHEARER Karen Rose Shearer, daughter of Floyd and Velda (Strickland) Troutner, was born June 10, 1943, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, on November 3, 2012, at the age of 69. Karen grew up in Lenora, Kansas, where she attended school, and Buena Vista, Colorado. Following the death of her mother, she returned to Lenora where she was raised from the age of 15 by her grandmother, Faye Strickland. On November 25, 1961, she married Roger Shearer in the Norton Christian Church. They made their home in Lenora and Norton before moving to Stamford, Nebraska. They later returned to the Long Island, Kansas, community where they currently lived. Karen was a loving homemaker to her husband and four children, and had also worked as a custodian. Karen was an avid supporter of the Northern Valley schools and loved spending time with her grandchildren and her dog, Spot. She was also a lifelong Elvis Presley fan. Survivors include: her husband, Roger, Shearer, Long Island; four children, Belinda Turman and John Steelsmith, Norton; Deb, and husband, Bob Kaus, Norton; Mike, and wife, Shelly Shearer, Almena; and Lisa Shearer, Norton; nine grandchildren, Ryan Shearer, Alyssa, and husband, Ryan Saalfeld, Scott Shearer, Caleb Turman, Ben Kaus, Amanda Turman, Courtney Kaus, Dalton and Keegan Smith; one brother, Don Troutner, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; two half-brothers, Charlie Troutner, Edgerton, Kansas; Jon Troutner, Kansas City area; one half-sister, Michelle Hatfield, Ottawa, Kansas; other relatives and many friends. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother, Faye Strickland, and two granddaughters, Amanda Turman and Brittney Shearer. A memorial has been established to the Karen Shearer Memorial Fund.
