Obituary of Evlynn J. Sanborn

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EVLYNN J. SANBORN Evlynn J. Sanborn, daughter of John and Olive (Horning) Horesky, was born March 1, 1921, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, on August 19, 2012, at the age of 91. Evlynn grew up in Norton County and attended the rural schools. On November 3, 1938, she married Garold A. Sanborn in Norton. They made their home in Norton, Beloit, and Lenora, Kansas, before moving to Edmond, Kansas, where they farmed. In 1963, they moved to Norton where Garold worked for Ideal Truck Lines. In 1971, due to a work transfer, they moved to Clay Center, Kansas. Following their retirement in 1979, they returned to Norton County and made their home in Almena. Garold passed away July 16, 1981. Evlynn later moved to Norton for a time but returned to Almena until her health required her move to the Andbe Home in Norton. Evlynn was a homemaker and businesswoman and greatly enjoyed babysitting many of the community's children. Evlynn was a very active member of the Norton Christian Church and was a Charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge where she had held every office and was a member of the Solomon Valley Club in Edmond. She enjoyed volunteer work and drove the Senior Citizen's bus as well. She was very active in every community in which she lived. Her greatest love was her family. Survivors include: five daughters, Saundra Anderson, Almena; Sharron, and husband, Art Thompson, Delphos, Kansas; Mary Lou Stegeman, Almena; Barbara, and husband, Sandy Sandell, Chiang Mai, Thailand; Nancy, and husband, Arvin Moden, Oblong, Illinois; two sisters, Grace Buchanan, of Florida; Mable Sanderson, Richmond, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Mary Jo Horesky, Norton; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Evlynn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Garold, two brothers, Bill and Bob Horesky, and one sister, Irene Mesmer. Memorials have been established to the Sandell's Thailand Mission & the Oblong Children's Christian Home.
