Obituary of Ruth McMulkin
IN LOVING MEMORY OF
RUTH McMULKIN
Ruth McMulkin, daughter of William Otis and Hazel Anne (Zimmerman) Sproul, was born January 23, 1918, in Norton County, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, on August 11, 2012, at the age of 94.
Ruth grew up in the Edmond community in Norton County. She attended the Edmond schools and Normal Training. Following her training, she was a teacher at the Mt. Olive Rural Grade School until her marriage. On March 5, 1938, Ruth and Victor Edward McMulkin were united in marriage in Hill City, Kansas. They made their home in Norton County where they farmed and raised their family. Ruth moved into Norton following her husband's death on May 22, 1978.
Ruth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Edmond and then later in Norton, and also a member of the UMW, and EHU. She served as a 4-H leader for many years and enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Shop and the Norton Historical Society.
Survivors include: four children, Marilyn McMulkin, Topeka, Kansas; Betty and husband, Ronald Frank, Manhattan, Kansas; Cathy McMulkin, Colby, Kansas; Michael and wife, Linda McMulkin, Pueblo West, Colorado; one daugther-in-law, Virginia McMulkin, Spokane, Washington; eight grandchildren, Kevin and wife, Lisa McMulkin, and Mark and wife, Bethany McMulkin, all of Spokane; Kay and husband, Erinie Gasseling, Yakima, Washington; Scott and wife, Amy Frank, and Chris Frank, all of Lawrence, Kansas; John and wife, Paula Frank, Ft. Collins, Colorado; Tori and Shannon McMulkin, Pueblo West; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd and wife, Glenna Sproul, Norton; one sister, Helen Hillman, Wakeeney, Kansas; other relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Bill.
A memorial has been established to the Victor E. and Ruth McMulkin Memorial Scholarship Fund at Colby Community College.
