Obituary of Francis E Jones

IN LOVING MEMORY FRANCIS JONES Francis Eugene Jones, 81, was born January 9, 1931, to William J. and Ethel Belle (Gordon) Jones in Hays Kansas. He passed away in his home on July 2, 2012 He grew up in the Trego and Graham County area and graduated from Hill City High School in 1949. He attended Fort Hays State University before serving in the U.S. Army for two years. After his military service he graduated with an A.B. degree from Fort Hays State University. He went on to earn a Masters Degree from Fort Hays State University in 1962. From 1958 to 1969 he taught and coached High School at Monument, Atwood, and Pratt, Kanas before becoming a superintendent -principal at Edson, Kansas and later a principal at Courtland, Kansas until 1976. During this time, on August 7th 1966, Francis married Alice (Sparkman) and they were married for 45 years. To their union two daughters and a son were born. Francis worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation from 1976 until his retired in 1991. He enjoyed his retirement spending time with his family and he loved to follow the many activities his grandchildren were involved in. He also enjoyed keeping up with current events in the community and world. Francis was a member of the Norton Christian Church and the Norton American Legion. Survivors include: his wife Alice, daughters, Dawn and husband Rich Risewick and children John, Jena, Norton, Kansas: Michele and husband Keith Mintzmyer, children Jacob, Kylie of Washington, Kansas: One son William (Bill) and wife Amye, children Silas, Eli, Norton, Kansas: One brother Darrell and wife Kay Oberlin, Kansas; other relatives and many friends. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, five sister, Arbutus, Maude, Adabelle, Mary, and Wanda; five brothers, James, Les, Lester, Art and Leonard. A memorial has been established to the Francis Jones Memorial Fund. .
