Obituary of Thomas Orin Melroy

IN LOVING MEMORY OF THOMAS O. MELROY Thomas Orin Melroy, son of Bernard L. and Nina (Severns) Melroy, was born November 10, 1939, in Norton, Kansas, and passed away at the Norton County Hospital in Norton, on February 27, 2012, at the age of 72. Tom grew up in Norton, attended the Norton schools, and attended one year of college at Kansas State University. He also served in the Kansas National Guard. On February 14, 1963, he married Joyce File and later married Sarah Anderson on July 3, 1974. Tom was a commercial electrician by trade and had made his home in Omaha and Chadron, Nebraska, Golden and Boulder, Colorado, before returning to Norton in 1988. Tom was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton, the Legion of Mary, and he was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed working with the CYO and being a Lector, EM, and Rosary leader at church. He was a member of the Harmonson-Redd American Legion Post #63, the American Legion Riders, Norton County Senior Citizen Board, and a past member of 4-H and FFA. Survivors include: one daughter, LeeAnn Nelson, Springfield, IL; two sons and their wives, James and Nannette Anderson, Longmont, Colorado; Roger and Deb Anderson, Julesburg, Colorado; one sister and her husband, Janice and Frank Henson, Warriors Mark, PA; nine grandchildren, Daniel and wife, Jennifer Nelson, Leslie and husband, Phillip Hays, Benjamin Nelson, Steven, Kelly, Jamie, and Brandon Anderson, Daniel Derry, and Steven Hanna; four great-grandchildren, Rylee Brielle and Reese Alexa Nelson, Abbie Noele and Juda Nathaniel Hays; other relatives and friends. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Bernard, and his wife, Sarah. Memorials have been established to the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Norton County Senior Center, Norton CARES, Norton AA.
